Dear Hollywood:
When you try to inspire me with inspirational posters, pictures with too much sun or too much sky, it makes me want to run in the opposite direction and be even more cynical and sarcastic than I already am. Just a warning.
Best wishes,
Me
P.S. The trailer for The Company Men makes me think this is a modern-day reimagining of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). Thoughts?
Also, as I wear glasses (like you and many many others), I hate when text is that small.
ReplyDeleteWhen text on a poster is that small, I often think, "What does that say? Probably it says something stupid and trite. Probably it's not worth my squinting to read it. I bet it's some asinine quote about hope or life or love (or all three) written by committee." (I take a pause.) "But what if, just what if, it's brilliant? What if it makes me want to see that movie? What if it makes me want to sit under an open sky for hours and contemplate my existence? Then wouldn't it be worth bothering to squint to read it?" (I squint and read it.) "Nope. Didn't need to bother. Fuckers."
Of course this only takes about two seconds to go through my head.
