I Don't Get It

Grab life by the balls? Wouldn't this make more sense if the main character was an actor with testicular cancer? Really, I don't understand how the pun operates in this context. Is it because she's holding a beach ball? Is that enough to make this pun clever? Does Laura Linney, when diagnosed with a terminal illness, become ESPECIALLY into beach volleyball?

I'm not trying to be snarky. I'm looking for answers.

I bet this'll be a good show. I like how channels like HBO and Showtime give actresses like Laura Linney, Toni Collette, and Tracy Ullmann a platform for their awesomeness.

  2. This is how I envision that pitch going:

"Well, boobs are kinda round... Well, not round exactly, but more round than square... I mean, if I had to pick a type of sporting equipment that most resembles boobs, it would be a ball and not a hockey stick or a catcher's mitt. Probably they are most like softballs, but I didn't think that would look good on a poster, you know, Laura Linney holding two softballs, so I thought, 'How about a beach ball?' And then I thought, well, we can do the photo shoot and if everyone REALLY hates that tag line we can always use 'Life's a beach!' as a backup slogan. See? She's on a beach? With a beach ball? So either would work. So, Ms. Executive-Lady, to answer your original question, No, I am not brain-dead."

    Something like that.

  3. So i had no idea this was a show about Cancer. I assumed, given the tag-line, "The Big C" was "cunt." Cunt and balls... that made sense to me.

    Tag-line fail.
